How did your SaaS journey begin?

Leah:
I’ve always loved spreadsheets but hated how hard it was to use AI tools like ChatGPT with them. I kept copying content from Google Sheets to ChatGPT and back - it was clunky and slow.

I mocked up an idea: a spreadsheet function that lets you run AI prompts like formulas. I called it PromptLoop and initially just had a landing page explaining the idea. I shared it on Reddit and Indie Hackers to see if anyone else struggled with this too.

The feedback was immediate - lots of upvotes and comments like “I need this yesterday.”

What made you decide to build it into a full product?

Leah:
The validation came from people literally asking for a way to pay. I didn’t even have a product yet - just a demo video using Glide and Zapier. But I got 50+ signups in the first week and a few folks emailing me asking when they could subscribe.

That’s when I knew I had to build a working prototype fast. I used no-code tools like Glide and Make to stitch it together. It was rough, but it worked - and people used it.

PromptLoop is like ChatGPT for spreadsheets. You can write prompts directly into your spreadsheet cells, and it fills in results automatically.

How did you grow your user base?

Leah:
I went where my users hang out: Reddit, Indie Hackers, and X/Twitter. I posted honest build logs, failures, and feature demos. I also created free templates (like “Generate product descriptions with AI”) and shared them in Google Sheets communities.

SEO came later - I started targeting search terms like “GPT Excel function” and “AI Google Sheets plugin.” I also added a free plan to get more users in the door.

Now, I get about 40% of my traffic from organic search, 30% from Twitter, and 30% from referrals.

Leah:

Leah:
I waited too long to charge. I was nervous people wouldn’t pay, so I kept everything free for too long. Once I added a paywall and a usage limit, not only did revenue start, but retention improved - people value what they pay for.

What advice would you give to first-time founders?

Leah:
Don’t overthink the tech. If you’re not a developer, use no-code. The real moat is distribution and customer insight.

Build something small, useful, and fast - and talk about it publicly. Users don’t want polished. They want useful, transparent, and responsive.
